Today’s post is written strictly as a consumer, not as an investor.
Inflation happens. For the most part, most of us don’t pay much attention to it until such a time when the rate of increase is out of the ordinary – as it has been recently.
Having come to the U.S.A. as an adult legal immigrant, one of my life’s simple pleasures has been to treat myself to a Japanese grocery store once a month. The recent, very noticeable price increases on every product have made me cut way back on purchases, however. I don’t remember the last time I have ever taken such strict measures on groceries. First, I look at the product that I typically buy, then the price. Gulp! Unless I absolutely must have it, I put it back on the shelf and walk away.
Welcome to the new reality.
