Time sensitive: 2021 Michigan real-estate license renewal

Are you frustrated about the fact that EVERYONE’s license was to expire on 10/31/2021, and that you had to wait forever to get help because something(s) did not work due to the system’s migration to MiPLUS? Here is a helpful hint to make your life a bit easier between now and near the end of December 2021.

Note: I am NOT an expert; only someone who went through the experience once and kept notes – so that you might have a slightly easier time renewing your license. Please address any questions directly to MiPLUS Support at (517) 241-0199.

  1. MiPLUS Support is available from 9 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday.
    1. Have the MiPLUS website on your PC/Mac, ready to renew your license.
      1. Go to https://michigan.gov/miplus
        1. Scroll down and click on “real estate” on the right column.
        2. Click on “MIPlus login,” the green bar toward the top left.
        3. If you are an owner-broker, you need to log in separately as a (1) broker and (2) brokerage.
      2. Once logged in, and if you are renewing it for yourself WITHOUT the support of MiPLUS Support:
        1. Do NOT check any of the boxes. (Their web developers are in the process of getting rid of these boxes to help eliminate the confusion.)
        2. Instead, click on the words, “Click here to Renew License.”
      3. Another helpful hint: Set an alarm and call MiPLUS Support exactly at 9 AM. Doing so will increase exponentially your chances of getting a live person quickly.
      4. When they start playing the recording, push button “2” for the first segment, followed by “3” for the next one.
    2. The lady that got on the phone with me was very helpful.
      1. If you need to renew both the broker and brokerage licenses, have two separate credit cards ready (because the amounts are the same, the system thinks that you’re trying to pay twice for the same thing, albeit different, and refuses to process the second one).
    3. Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) is waiving the $20 late fee for 60 days since the expiration date of 10/31/2021.
      1. Beyond the 60-day period, however, you will need to apply for relicensing; and the penalties will apply.

The next renewal is in 2025, nearly four years from now. This means we have no excuse not to focus on making deals happen between now and then.

Happy investing and good luck!
