The Nunes Memo

As of this posting, a Democratic rebuttal to the Nunes Memo remains classified by the White House due to concerns over national security.

In “The 2016 election – My thoughts,” I wrote about how corrupt the Democratic Party was, as manifested by its clear abuses of power.  More specifically, what was most egregious to us, the silent majority in America, was that the Democratic Party was engaging in silencing American citizens (for example, Tea Party members) who did not support the party’s liberal agenda.  The Obama-era appointees were weaponizing powers bestowed upon them (senior officials) of such federal organizations as the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Justice, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to harass those who disagreed with them.  These government organizations are funded by taxpayers.  This type of abuse of power happens in other countries but never in the United States of America.  Or so I thought.  I was proven dead wrong.

As if such abuses of power against ordinary American citizens were not bad enough, little did I know that Hillary Clinton – the opponent to Donald J. Trump – and the Democratic National Committee went so far as to pay for a fabricated dossier, spread lies about then-candidate Trump through the media, and attempted to win the election.  What I don’t understand is how far the Democrats and the liberal media would go to not only protect the liers but perpetuate the lies – for an entire year since the election – and keep on going even to this day.  This is deeply troubling.

We all know that President Trump is no Mr. Perfect.  But who, among us, are without any sins or faults?  We did not elect him to be our Pope.  We elected him to be the President of the United States to get things done on our behalf, the ordinary American citizens.

I never understood why the Democrats (and even some Republicans) were so dead-set against President Trump and made sure to oppose anything and everything he said or did.  Perhaps it is because a complete outsider, which then-candidate Trump was, can see and expose a lot that government insiders do not want the public to see.  In any case, I was not a fan of President Barack Obama, especially after he enacted the laws that killed our business model, but I moved on.  Frankly, I had no luxury of time to feel sorry for myself.  I simply had to stay focused on whatever it took to protect my financial future.

By the time President Trump delivered his State of the Union speech on January 30, 2018, I was amazed at how much he was able to accomplish during his first year in the Oval Office despite the perpetual onslaught of verbal attacks against him by the Democrats and the majority of the media.  I found such non-stop attacks against President Trump offensive and, today, I simply tune out everything liberals and Democrats have to say.

This is sad because we live in a country where we are supposed to be able to debate issues, agree to disagree, and remain respectful of one another.  Come to think of it, the liberals have been very effective during the last several decades in inculcating young Americans through the school and university systems to NOT tolerate people who possess opposing views from their own.  As I wrote in January 2017, it is as if the First Amendment rights for American citizens are no longer being protected.  Clear examples are seen on many university campuses where protests and violence erupt when speakers with “politically incorrect” views are being invited; often, universities are forced to bend to pressures and cancel the event.  Or have organizers pay for security expenses incurred!?  Who would have thought that such intolerance could take root in America?  This is disturbing.

Here is my observation of the difference between liberals and conservatives.

  • Liberals believe in regulations and entitlement programs through big government.  They are focused on making people dependent on the government, thereby securing votes from anybody and everybody, including even those who are illegals and/or criminals.  (Note: I was pretty sure that only American citizens were given the privilege to vote but, apparently, liberals believe and encourage otherwise.  Why such a phenomenon is not being treated as a criminal offense is beyond me.)
  • Conservatives, on the other hand, are focused on individual responsibility.  This translates to smaller government, resulting in fewer taxpayer-funded programs except in areas involving national security and safety of citizens.  (Note: The U.S.A. prospered after World War II because it has a system that encourages individual freedom and free enterprise.  Even President John F. Kennedy, a Democrat, was a proponent of those ideals.)

It would be interesting to see the correlation between the number of federal regulations enacted since 1945, the level of economic prosperity achieved, and which President was in the Oval Office at the time.

On February 2, 2018, three days after the President’s speech, the Nunes memo was declassified by the President and made public.  The memo was based on the findings of the investigations by the House Intelligence Committee.  The crux of the issue is that the FBI obtained approval from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to spy on the Trump campaign based on the fabricated dossier.  Based on the evidence, the clear motive was to smear and discredit then-candidate Trump.  From what I understand, the Nunes memo covers only about 10-15% of the findings, and that more are coming.  Hopefully, we’ll be learning more about how and why FISC could have given such an approval.  Something smells rotten about FISC.

Worse, the same fabricated dossier was used to justify the investigation into the alleged “Trump-Russia Collusion.”  Here is a brief timeline of events leading up to this investigation.

  1. May 9, 2017: James B. Comey, then FBI Director, was fired by President Trump.
  2. May 16, 2017: Rod J. Rosenstein, Deputy Attorney General, escorts Robert S. Mueller, a former FBI Director, into the White House for an interview with President Trump to succeed Comey.  Mueller was not interviewed; i.e., not considered for the job.
    • As you can imagine, long-time friends, Rosenstein and Mueller, are not happy at all with the President.
    • Rosenstein, by the way, was appointed Deputy Attorney General by former Attorney General Eric Holder, another Obama appointee, i.e., a Democrat.
  3. May 17, 2017: Rosenstein names Mueller “Special Counsel for Russia Investigation.”
    • The real objective, however, appears to be to undermine the duly-elected President of the United States by finding evidence to the alleged “Trump-Russia Collusion.”
    • Most, if not all, team members assembled by Mueller for this investigation are donors to the Democratic party.  Question: Is it just me that sees glaring conflicts of interest here?
  4. February 16, 2018: As of this date, it resulted in 13 Russian operatives being indicted for interfering in the 2016 U.S. elections.
    • After nearly a year, this investigation has found zero evidence of wrong-doing by the Trump Campaign.

If someone can prove to me – NOT with opinions but with solid evidence – that my thought process is wrong, I’d be delighted to learn about it.

Just to be clear, as an independent, I used to vote for Democrats until I began seeing troubling signs about the Democratic party.  Even if the Democrats admit to the crime, promise to never do it again, and prove their sincerity with constant good behavior, it will take decades, if not centuries, before trust in the Democratic party will be restored.  I hope that those who have abused power will be tried, held criminally liable, and spend the rest of their lives in jail with no possibility of parole.  Why?

Simple.  Those who held, and still hold, some of the highest positions in the U.S. government destroyed the trust of the American people.  Punishments commensurate with the level of crime are the only way the American public will be able to see that such abuse of power – at taxpayer expense, no less – is absolutely not tolerated in our country.  I expect the U.S.A., the country of my childhood dreams, to restore its dignity and respect, for which it used to be known throughout the rest of the world.  Strict adherence to the Constitution of the United States of America and the Bill of Rights would be a good start.
