My ‘bestest’ friend

Once upon a time, I saw a child – perhaps around 3 years of age – introduce his friend to an audience with the utmost enthusiasm, saying, “He is my ‘bestest’ friend.”

Technically, there is no such word, of course, but we all understood exactly what he meant. It was one of the most genuine, off-the-cuff expressions of how the child felt about his friend.

Ever since then, the word ‘bestest’ has stuck in my head. And I’m feeling quite fortunate to have someone in my life whom I call my ‘bestest’ friend of over 50 years.

Life is good.
